Understanding
Workstation 2: Understanding
You naturally and unconsciously follow the cultural currents that run below the surface of your life and work back home. While you may recognize cultural cues as they show up in your new life and work, you also need systems and strategies for understanding where they come from, what they may mean and how they may affect your life and work.
Through a perspective of curiosity, we will support and guide each other to develop customized systems and strategies for achieving understanding:
- Ask thought-provoking questions that raise awareness around cultural roots of behaviors,
- Turn cultural assumptions upside down to see what they look like from another perspective,
- Recognize and acknowledge your own culturally based assumptions, beliefs, values.
- Overcome the obstacles that hold you back from understanding,
In addition you will:
- Exchange stories and reflect on personal experiences.
To practice a perspective of curiosity, you may have to remove a few obstacles:
- Discomfort with uncertainty, unpredictability and ambiguity.
Through the whole-brain, whole-body workout, you will gain tools and strategies to overcome these obstacles and open up a route to understanding others.
The big bonus:
- Empathy,
- Capacity to develop new hypothesis and create new alternatives, stretch boundaries,
- Capacity to modify your own opinions as a result of new information,
- More accurately evaluate underlying cultural meanings– and increase understanding.
